English Text

Schwabach, August 26, 1923

My Dear Cousin,

We received your kind letter of August 1. We all thank you very much. Heartfelt thanks for your picture. Many thanks for the five dollars which we used to stock up on flour. My son Johann will postpone the trip to your country until next year. Until then, perhaps it would be possible for you to help out with the passage. We had already seen a copy of the picture you sent us when we were in Munich visiting Fraulein Ungersma. Our relationship is quite close: your grandfather, who emigrated to America in 1848 was the loving brother of my grandfather. Your father was the master brewer Hermann Weinhardt who emigrated with his father (your grandfather). In 1849, your grandmother Babette Weinhardt followed her husband with the remaining 5 children:

1) Anna Katharina Luise born July 23, 1833

2) Johann Mich. Nikolaus born Aug. 1835

3) Andr. Georg Gustav born July 13, 1836

4) Johanna Ernestine Emilie Philippine born Aug 10, 1839

5) Susanna Karoline born July 18, 1840

As you can see, dear cousin, our relationship is a close one. In addition to you, are there any other relatives living?

As I learned by chance, a Mrs. Allen Pence of 510 South Center Street in Terre Haute should also be related to us. Also, there should be relatives in London. Please let us know more, if you have knowledge of this.

With the hope that this letter finds you in good health, I remain your thankful cousin.

Johann Weinhardt

Best regards from my entire family!
