page 1 Hamburg Fuhlsbüttelerstreet Nr. 599 12. Mai 1907 My dear aunt! A long winter has now been followed by a warmth that is seldom seen in may. We are sitting under our tent roof and with today's Sunday silence one is involuntarily prompted to take a look into the past. Especially that which is furthest away, and when I think of my stay in America, your dear picture, like that of my uncle, shines out most clearly from it. How are you auntie, are you guys so hot too? Are you still good against it at your old age? page 2 Enclosed I am sending you the picture of an 60-year-old man, you may still recognize a distant resemblance. It was only recently taken. You can distribute the other pictures as you like. Amalie will get one with my next letter, my wife’s will be finished by then. Who knows if we will get back to it again. Your beautiful gift for our old church made us very happy. Nobody in the wider area of our neighbors can boast of such a fact. Around the church, whose solid walls page 3 are still well preserved up to the level of the previous roof and are also used, large scaffolding has been built. Construction should be finished in around 2 1/2 years. With the tower it will cost around 3.500,000 M. About half of this sum is raised through voluntary collections. The state gives what is missing. We are all well and good, even if the sudden heat threatens to get us down a bit. For this we intend to do a little tour again after 5 years, namely a so-called Nordland Reise. page 4 It's a lot cooler there. The Barthol family was already there, even if we don't think to go that far north. How are the people? Is the man more or less in full possession of the strength of the injured arm? Please greet them from us. And now dear aunt, I greet you and all you loved ones very warmly. If we come to Norway, you will receive one of the first cards. I hope to hear from you again soon, I remain your faithful nephew. Gustav Grupe a. wife.
