English Text

Würzburg, March 23, 1856

Beloved brother, Seligmann!

I received your letter on Purim afternoon and was touched by the tender love you express for me. You are such a good brother to me and such a fine man. Your feelings are correct. I have a great love and devotion for you that can only be found between brothers.

Your letter was so tender and had such a beautiful character that I wanted to kiss each word.

Concerning your interest in my future and your kind invitation to join you, I must tell you that I agree with our dear parents and feel that I want to make my hundred thousand in Europe. I am thinking about going to Paris. I think I could do well there.

I am well and happy and hope you are the same. I am very happy about your coming visit. I am very happy also with you, dear Seligmann. I can see from your letters how mature and orderly you have become.

In the hope that you are living well and having good success in your business, I kiss you in thought,

Your brother,

Max
