Dear Aunt and dear Uncle,

This very moment I take the pen into my hand in order to write you a letter. I was very happy to receive the money and I am sending you my best thanks for it. However, since I don’t know how to show my appreciation, I beg you, please come and pay us a visit. Then I will try to recompense you in my way.

I got a black dress because Grandfather passed away shortly before Easter.

My dear Aunt, we already wrote so many letters. We did not receive the letter you wrote on October 1. We thought you might surprise us with a visit, but all our hopes were in vain so far.

Dear Wilhelmine, please come to Germany once and give my best regards to your brothers. They are invited as well. We received Friedrich’s photo and like it very much, but we would also like to have a photo showing all of you, please. A long time ago, we sent a photo showing all the members of our family. Please let us know if you received it. I would have sent another one, but it is difficult to have photos taken here. I will keep trying, nevertheless.

Triena Tants moved out of her house and is renting now. Her stepson married and since that time she cannot get along with him anymore. The three, Triena, Hinrich, and Eibe Hillman live together in the same house. The old aunt passed away; I suppose you heard about that.

Both Johann von Lehe’s daughters married recently, and it is said that his son will also marry soon. He spent some time in America, but he returned home again.

Dear Aunt, I would like to ask you another favor. Please break me a flower or a leaf from your garden and send it to me with a letter.

I am closing with many thanks.

Your niece,

Alma Hillmann

P.S. Please write soon, then I will know if you received my earlier letters. Best regards from Father, Mother, and my brothers.
