Windsheim. 12 June 1924

Germany - Bavaria

Dear Uncle and Aunt,

We have been waiting in vain for a reply from you about our last letter. How are you dear Uncle and how are your loved ones? We are all well and healthy and hope the same goes for you. Things are getting a bit better here. Prices have stabilized and are not rising from day to day as they did last fall. Money is still scarce however. Factories cannot pay their employees what they are due because of the money shortage. Several factories have gone bankrupt. I have received only half of my wages for May. There is nothing we can do about this.

I have not yet received the $25 that I will need in New York. Please write soon and let us know if you have already sent the money. We have also not been contacted by any passenger ship company. I would appreciate it very much if you could let me know the name of the company.

As we explained in our last letter, the ban on German immigration to the USA is being canceled as of July 1, the US Consulate in Munich started to process visa applications on June 1.

Dear Uncle, let me know the street address of our other Uncle in New York so that I can find him after I arrive in New York. On April 8, we sent a letter to Uncle John in New York and asked him if he could help me get on the right train, but have received no reply.

Dear Uncle, if you have changed your mind about having me come over, we would not think less of you. We know how much this is costing you, and that I would be a burden to you since I speak very little English. Once our financial situation improves, I would plan to take tutoring in English and perhaps I could then come over at a later time.

Dear Uncle, please write soon and write about the conditions in your country.

Your thankful nephew, Hans Weinhardt

Best wishes from my parents and from my siblings. They thank you for all you have done for us.
